JTJB SEMINAR ON ESSENTIAL POINTS TO NOTE WHEN BUYING AND SELLING PROPERTY IN SINGAPORE

JTJB’s Partner, Tan Seow Peer delivered a talk on the above topic on 21st May 2015, Thursday.

The talk covered various important points to consider when undergoing property transactions. These includes understanding the Additional Buyers’ Stamp Duty and Sellers’ Stamp Duty, how to protect one from unfair contracts, planning of finances and a lawyer’s role in the transaction process.

SSA YEG EDUCATIONAL TALK & NETWORKING SESSION

JTJB’s Deputy Managing Partner, John Sze, spoke on the topic “Liability and the Limitation Convention: Possibilities, Process and…Pandemonium?” at the SSA’s YEG Educational Talk and Networking session. The talk was held on 31st March 2015 at JTJB Office.

Young executives from various SSA Member Companies engaged in a discussion on the limitation of liability regime, recent case law development and the possible adoption of the 1999 Protocol in Singapore, which increases the limits on liability.

This was JTJB’s first participation in the YEG program and John was given a token of appreciation at the end of the session.

ADVOC ASIA MEETING, YANGON 2015

JTJB Myanmar Co. Ltd, ADVOC member in Myanmar, hosted the Annual ADVOC Asia Meeting held in Yangon from 30th April to 2nd May 2015. The meeting was well attended by 35 ADVOC members.

An International Business Forum held on the first day whereby speakers from Singapore, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom provided useful information on doing business in the respective jurisdictions.

We had the honor of inviting Dr. Marlar Myo Nyunt, Director of the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) to introduce the range of incentive programs available in Myanmar contributing to the country’s rapid commercialization rate prior to the commencement of ADVOC Meeting on the second day.

Apart from the forum and meeting, attendees enjoyed a series of social and networking activities in Yangon. This included a visit to Shwedagon Pagoda, Yangon British Colonial Street, experienced traditional Shan cuisine and the event ended with a memorable farewell dinner at the Belmond Governor’s Residence.

JTJB Senior Partner, Dato’ Jude P Benny was a guest speaker in a live video presentation hosted by Colin Biggers & Paisley in Sydney, Australia on 6th May 2015. Dato Benny spoke on the topic “Welcome to the New Frontier: Doing Business in Myanmar”. The presentation was very well received by audiences in Sydney.

The exclusive networking event featured wines of Burgundy and gourmet canapés. It was a memorable evening for all who attended.
