JTJB SEMINAR ON LASTING POWER OF ATTORNEY

JTJLPAB Senior Partner, Ms Mabel Tan held a Seminar on the topic “Lasting Power of Attorney” on 21st April 2016, Thursday.

Mabel gave an overview of the LPA process and explained the importance and benefits of appointing a trusted individual to manage one’s personal welfare and affairs through a lasting power of attorney (“LPA”).

The seminar ended with a coffee and networking session.

13TH ANNUAL SHIPARRESTED.COM CONFERENCE 2016, SINGAPORE

ShipAJoseph Tan Jude Benny LLP, Gurbani & Co LLC and Oon & Bazul LLP jointly hosted the 13th Annual Shiparrested.com Conference at the Raffles Hotel Singapore from Thursday, 3rd March 2016 to Friday, 4th March 2016.

Shiparrested.com is an international network of maritime lawyers who have a particular expertise in the arrest and release of ships.

The Conference was being held in Asia for the first time. It was attended by over 80 Shiparrested.com members and invited guests from 35 different countries. 17 members from different jurisdictions engaged in a series of talks and panel discussions, sharing expert insights on issues affecting shipping lawyers worldwide. JTJB’s Managing Partner, K Murali Pany spoke on the topic “Enforcement of Arbitration Awards in Singapore”.

JTJB AND WALTONS & MORSE LLP JOINT SEMINAR

JTJB held a joint seminar with Waltons & Morse LLP on 7th April 2016, Thursday at JTJB’s office. Speakers at the seminar were Dato’ Jude P Benny, JTJPicture1B Senior Partner, and Mr. Mark Lloyd, a Partner of Waltons & Morse LLP. The seminar was attended by representatives from various insurance and financial advisory companies.

Dato’ Benny spoke on “Cyber Risk Insurance in Asia and Insurance Opportunities in Myanmar”. Dato’ Benny touched on developments in the insurance market in Asia where insurance regimes are continuing to develop within the ASEAN Block and shared his views on how the insurance markets fit together globally from Singapore’s perspective. Mark followed with a presentation on “The Insurance Act 2015 and The Enterprise Bill 2015” and discussed the impacts and issues of these changes on insurance policies worldwide.

An informative and interactive Q&A session followed with attendees sharing their experiences and opinions on the impact of amendments to the insurance clauses and policies benefit from an international perspective.

The seminar event came to an end with a networking and cocktail reception.

MARITIME DEBT RECOVERY AND CREDIT RISK PROTECTION TALK AT BATAM

Picture3JTJB Senior Partner, Dato’ Jude P Benny spoke on the topic “Maritime Debt Recovery and Credit Risk Protection” organized by the Batam Shipyard and Offshore Association (BSOA) on 11th April 2016, Monday.

The talk was attended by members of the Association and ended with an interactive Q&A session.

JTJB BANGKOK INTRODUCES NEW DIRECTOR

Picture4JTJB’s Bangkok office, JTJB International Lawyers, is pleased to introduce a new Director, Mr. Bunnasomboon Chaiparinya (Aaron). Aaron will commence duties at the Bangkok office as of 1st May 2016.

Aaron read law at Thammasat University and subsequently obtained a Masters in Professional Accounting and Business Administration from Australia. Prior to joining JTJB, Aaron worked with international law firms in Thailand and Australia.

Aaron is experienced in Corporate and business transactional work including Public-Private Partnership projects, Mergers & Acquisition, foreign investment and immigration. He has also represented international and domestic clients in litigation matters including shareholder/corporate disputes, labor disputes, business reorganization & bankruptcy.
