JTJB participates in Sea Asia 2019
Sea Asia has established itself as one of the premier maritime conferences and exhibitions in the world. This biennial event is eagerly anticipated by the industry.
As a recognised maritime and shipping law firm, JTJB’s association with Sea Asia comes as no surprise and goes back to 2015.
JTJB was again honoured to participate in Sea Asia 2019, held on 9 to 11 April during Maritime Week. This year there were almost 15,000 international participants from 80 countries and a total of 440 exhibitors.
Apart from co-hosting the Speaker’s Dinner together with the Port of Singapore Authority, JTJB Managing Partner K. Murali Pany was part of a Panel on Day 2 of the Conference on the topic ” A Practical Response to Upcoming Regulations”.
The Panel considered the impact of environment-focused regulations on ballast water management, the upcoming 2020 sulphur cap and greenhouse gases. The Panel also discussed problems that might be faced by shipowners/charterers and practical steps that can be taken to avoid or address these problems.
JTJB Breakfast Seminar in Yangon: Director’s Duties – Implications under Myanmar Companies Law 2017
With the new Myanmar Companies Law coming into effect on August 2018, Myanmar’s economy is expanding and foreign investors are surging in.
The updated companies law reflects international standards, and paves the way for growth and opportunities.
However, company directors need to be aware of how these changes affect them and the organizations they run and are working with.
On 14 March 2019, Florence Goh, the Head of JTJB’s Myanmar Desk, held a well-attended Breakfast Seminar in Yangon to discuss the implications of the updated law on the directors, particularly in joint venture companies.
JTJB has had an office in Yangon since 2013 and is familiar with the economic and legal landscape of Myanmar.
