JOSEPH TAN JUDE BENNY LLP APPOINTED BY TWO MYANMAR STATE OWNED ENTITIES
Joseph Tan Jude Benny LLP (JTJB) had the privilege of being appointed by two Myanmar state owned entities, in their recent aircraft and vessel acquisitions. These two State Owned entities are Myanmar National Airlines Company Limited (MNA) and Myanma Five Star Line Company Limited (MFSL).
MNA is the sole national flag carrier and state-owned airline of Myanmar, based in Yangon. The acquisition deal for an ATR 72-600 MSN 1267 commenced in May 2015 and the aircraft was successfully delivered on 5 August 2015. The JTJB team was led by the Head of our Corporate Department, Florence Goh. JTJB has been engaged by MNA to act in future aircraft acquisitions.
MFSL, a state-owned organization under the Myanmar Economic Holdings since 2010 and the national flag carrier, acquired a new vessel, the EVITA-K. MFSL currently owns a total of 19 vessels. The Vessel acquisition, spearheaded by the firm’s Senior Partner, Dato’ Jude P Benny, was done in a short space of time with the closing taking place within 2 weeks of our receipt of instructions.
The two deals reflect the firm’s good standing and reputation in Myanmar, and the strides made by the JTJB Myanmar office.

JTJB Partner, Ms. Tan Seow Peer and our guest speaker, Mr. Lee Chiwi from Rockwills Trustee Group of Companies in Singapore spoke at the JTJB Seminar on “Will Writing and Lasting Power of Attorney” and “Use of Trusts for Families” respectively.
Ms. Tan Seow Peer spoke about the importance and benefits of writing a will and appointing an LPA at an early stage whereas Mr. Lee Chiwi introduced Trust as a flexible and resilient tool for succession and estate planning. It was an informative seminar which ended off with an interactive discussion on the topic.

The annual JTJB Cup was held on 31st July 2015, Friday at the Singapore Indian Association. It was an exciting match between Team JTJB and the Mariners, with the Mariners taking home the JTJB Cup this year.
The match was played in an excellent spirit and was followed by a reception where players and spectators could network. Awards were also presented to the best batsman, best bowler and best all-rounder.
JTJB would like to extend our appreciation to all the players and attendees for their support at the event.

APPOINTMENT OF NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR OF JTJB BANGKOK
Mr. Naiyachon Tathong has been appointed as the Managing Director and Head of our Bangkok office with effect from 1 August 2015.
Naiyachon was previously Head of Litigation at a leading Bangkok law firm, specializing in Commercial, International Trade and Labour disputes. While his practice has been focused on litigation in the past few years, Naiyachon has a rich practice experience in handling both contentious and non-contentious matters. His experience in non-contentious matters include Intellectual Property matters, drafting corporate agreements and advising on corporate restructuring and rehabilitation matters.Two new lawyers will also be joining the existing team in September 2015. Mr. Pornnarong Iamkitsamrith is an experienced lawyer with both litigation and corporate experience, and joins us from a leading real estate company, where he was Legal Counsel. Ms. Tanyalak Chaisorn Tanyalak is a recent graduate from Thammasat University with top academic results and an excellent command of English.
The appointment of a high profile lawyer to head JTJB’s Thailand office represents our continued commitment to building on the successes of JTJB International Lawyers. The new additions will further enhance the depth, quality and strength of the legal team in Bangkok.
