Singapore Maritime Week Special Update

JTJB took part in the recently concluded Singapore Maritime Week (SMW), an annual gathering of the international maritime community in Singapore. This year’s theme is Transformation for Growth, where it expands on the momentum built up by the industry in taking key steps towards digitalisation, while tackling the urgent issue of climate change.

SCMA: The arbitration chamber of repute anchoring Singapore’s maritime centre

As part of SMW, JTJB contributed to an article on the rise of SCMA as a leading maritime arbitration centre, and how the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine situation have impacted the demand for arbitration, and may increase the number of maritime arbitration cases. The article also highlights SCMA as a specialist arbitration institution which provides a neutral, cost-effective, and flexible framework for maritime and international trade arbitrations.

JTJB at the Maritime Services Leaders Forum

John Sze moderated a panel discussion on “The Changing Nature of Maritime Risks” at the inaugural Maritime Services Leaders Forum, where John and his distinguished panellists explored and evaluated the changing nature of maritime risks. The distinguished panellists comprised of Nick Shaw (CEO/International Group of P&I Clubs),  Richard Turner (President/International Union of Marine Insurance UK), Paul Hackett (Joint Head of Marine/Canopius Singapore) and Jonathan Holmes (Head of Hull Asia/ AXA Singapore).

Following the forum, John sat down with Channel NewsAsia for an interview where he shared his thoughts on the important role that maritime services (including finance, insurance, and legal services) has, in making Singapore a maritime hub and how it can contribute to the maritime industry’s role as it moves towards digitalisation and decarbonisation..
