ADVOC Marine Forum “Refresh. Rebuild. Reform.”

JTJB Senior Partner Danny Chua spoke at two ADVOC Marine Forums held in Sydney and Melbourne on 30 and 31 August 2017 respectively.

The Forums were hosted by Colin, Biggers & Paisley and titled “Refresh. Rebuild. Reform.”  Danny Chua, spoke of the reforms in Singapore regarding cross border insolvency and their likely impact in a shipping context.

The Forums attracted attendees from a wide cross section of the marine industry, including insurers, shipping company representatives, freight forwarders, importers and exporters.

On the 22nd September 2017, the Singapore Shipping Association celebrated its 32 years of service to the maritime industry by having a gala dinner at Marina Bay Sands.

Dr Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Health, was the Guest of Honour at the Dinner.

Partners and associates from JTJB Shipping sector, along with Ieuan Jones from Ashfords LLP who joined us for a 2 week attachment, attended the gala dinner which brought together more than 1,800 guests from the maritime and related industries in Singapore and around the world.

Team JTJB at Mariners’ Premier League

On the 7th & 8th of October 2017 Team JTJB participated in the Mariner’s Premier League to challenge for the Lloyd’s Register Challenge Cup, held at the Singapore Indian Association & Ceylon Sports Club grounds.

AIJA Conference in Bilbao, Spain

Eva123-Maria Braje from ENDEMANN.SCHMIDT, an associate firm of JTJB, moderated a panel discussion titled, “Tools for Creditors to Protect their Interests” at this year’s AIJA Conference which was held at Bilbao from the 28th to 30th September 2017.

The theme for this year’s conference was “Navigating Through Troubled Waters; Current Trends in International Maritime and Energy Insolvencies.” The panellists took a pragmatic approach on the matter and applied it to real-life situations. They also covered recent international maritime insolvency updates, maritime credits and liens vs. international insolvencies and forum shopping in insolvency proceedings.

The conference attracted a large number of participants from around the world and participants benefitted from high level discussions and experts insights.


Rahayu Partnership launches Probate and Administration Practice

JTJB’s associateprofileAN firm in Kuala Lumpur, Rahayu Partnership has launched its Probate and Administration practice with the addition of new partner, Azlin Nordinar binti Abdul Samad.

Azlin Nordinar is a dual qualified civil advocate and solicitor in the high court of Malaya and a syariah practicing advocate in the Federal Territories of Malaysia.

Also, Ms Azri Nadiah who completed her pupilage in the firm was admitted to the High Court of Malaya and has joined the team as an associate.
